Wow my first blog post on here – truly feeling the pressure right now haha!
I keep meaning to make some cards for adult birthdays but seeing as I’m usually drawn to the insanely cute, kiddy style stamp sets, I do find it difficult to make cards that are suitable for older recipients. The Oh My Gostrich stamp set from My Favorite Things is cute, which ticks one box, and features adult sentiments, so I feel like it’s the best of both worlds.
Supplies I Used:
- My Favorite Things Oh My Gostrich Stamp Set
- Crafter’s Companion Stamping Card
- Heffy Doodle 8.5 x 11” Coloured Cardstock – Sunny Side Up
- Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Dies
- Heffy Doodle Slimline Scenery Dies
- Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide
- Antique Linen Distress Oxide
- Gold Arteza Acrylic Paint
- Lawn Fawn Glue Pen
- Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad
- Copic Markers: RV00, RV02, YR16, W1, W4, W7, 100
- White Gelly Roll Pen
Making the Card
To start, I cut the background and the sand out of Crafter’s Companion Stamping Card using the layout dies. I then blended Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide for the sky, and used Antique Linen for the sand. To add some texture to the sand, I mixed some gold acrylic paint with water and splattered this on. I didn’t actually realise the paint was shimmery when I chose to use it so that was a nice, unexpected effect.
While the background was drying, I stamped two of the ostriches from the My Favorite Things Oh My Gostrich Stamp Set on to what was left of the Stamping Card I’d used previously. I then coloured them with Copic markers, added a few accents with a white Gelly Roll pen, and used my Scan n Cut to cut them out. Finally, I cut a piece of Sunny Side Up cardstock from Heffy Doodle in half and scored it down the middle to make the card.
With the background now dry, I assembled all of the elements, making sure to leave a good amount of space for the sentiment at the top. I stuck everything down using a Lawn Fawn Glue Pen, and then finally stamped the sentiment, which was also from the Oh My Gostrich Stamp Set. Although not pictured here, I also used one of the amazing sentiments (Crafty AF) from the CZ Design Sassy Flaps set on the back of my card, just to add a bit more humour and make my card look a little bit more professional.
I don’t really make many clean and simple cards, but I really like how this one turned out, and I’m glad it’s the first card I’ve created for this blog. I’d love to hear what you think about it in the comments.
