A few weeks ago, I was browsing card Instagram, and I came across a fantastic make by @poppy_and_thistle_design. She’d done a great play on Baby Shark, which my almost three year old loves. So, I shamelessly copied her idea and created my own Birthday Shark card for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. I used the same stamp sets as Poppy and Thistle but put my own twist on it. You can see how I made it below.
Supplies I Used
- Lawn Fawn Duh Nuh stamp set
- My Favorite Things Sharky Sentiments stamp set
- Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Dies
- Heffy Doodle Circle Masquerade stencil
- Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide
- Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide
- Snow Leopard White Crafting Card
- Lawn Fawn Glue Pen
- Crafters Companion tape pen
- Lawn Fawn Rainforest Ink Pad
- Memento Black Ink Pad
- Glossy Accents
- Copic Sketch Markers
- Tonic Studios A2 Card and Envelope Blanks set
Making the Card
To create my ‘Birthday Shark’ card, I started off by die cutting one rectangle using the largest Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die. I then lined up the Heffy Doodle Circle Masquerade stencil and blended Tumbled Glass and Salvaged Patina Distress Oxides to create the sea. I then stamped the ‘Birthday Shark’ sentiment onto the card base using Memento Black ink.
Next, I stamped the shark and the fish from the Lawn Fawn Duh Nuh stamp set onto some Snow Leopard White Crafting Card using Memento Black ink. I coloured these in using my Copic Sketch markers and glued them onto the card using a Lawn Fawn glue pen.
Finally, I stamped the bubble stamp from the Duh Nuh stamp set directly onto the ink blended background using Lawn Fawn Rainforest ink. I then added glossy accents to this to give the impression of bubbles. Once this was dry, I used my Crafters Companion tape pen to attach my design to my card base.
I finished the card by stamping another sentiment from the ‘Sharky Sentiments’ kit into the middle of my card: It’s Cake Chomping Time.
This is a clean and simple card for me and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I hope my daughter likes it.
